Aurora Lions to host Candy Day fundraiser Oct. 11

Aurora Noon Lions Club members invite the public to join the Lions in their fight against the effects of vision and hearing loss. Aurora Noon Lions will hold their annual Candy Day fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at Jewel-Osco, 1952 W. Galena Blvd. in Aurora.

Lions will give away mini Tootsie Pops and accept monetary donations to help the visually and hearing-impaired.

Rodrigo "Bobby" Menendez, Aurora Noon Lions president, said "It is almost impossible for those who can see and hear normally to fully understand what it is like to be visually or hearing-impaired. But they can help through their support of Candy Day."

Candy Day is the premiere fundraiser for the Lions of Illinois Foundation of Sycamore, which offers services and programs provided to the hearing and visually impaired in Illinois. This event raises more than 50% of total operating funds for the Sycamore-based foundation.

Candy Day donations enable the foundation to serve more than 18,000 men, women and children annually.

Currently more than 15 states and Australia also conduct Candy Day fundraisers.

The foundation provides Camp Lions, a summer residential camp especially designed for children with sight and hearing loss and Camp Helen Keller for Adults with vision and hearing loss.
