Elk Grove Village wins Governor's Hometown Award

The Elk Grove Village Cares anti-opioid program has received a Governor's Hometown Award and is a finalist for the top award, the Governor's Cup.

The program gives formal recognition to local units of government that contributed to their community's quality of life via projects that had strong volunteer support, met a need and made a definitive impact.

Launched in June 2018, the program provides treatment and resources to those battling addiction. Also under the initiative, the overdose-reversing medication Narcan has been placed in public spaces and private businesses.

Elk Grove Village is among four finalists for the top award, which will be chosen by Serve Illinois, the Governor's Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service. A winner will be announced at a reception in Springfield on Nov. 14.
