We need whistleblowers
Amid the impeachment inquiry, consider a consoling observation from Malvina Reynolds in 1966. Verse 2 of "God Bless the Grass" reads:
"God bless the truth that fights toward the sun. / They roll the lies over it and think that it is done. / It moves through the ground and reaches for the air /
And after a while it is growing everywhere, / And God bless the truth."
Yes, this is acknowledgment of the value of whistleblowers.
But more important is recognition of other members of the Trump administration, some in the White House, who felt the need to share their disapproval of the phone call and other matters.
And if the whistle-blower was viewed as a seat of potential influence by these administration officials, then they seemed to be following the Quaker proverb, "Speak truth to power."
Isn't it encouraging to think an irresistible concern for the truth is part of human nature?
