$250K bond for Villa Park man charged with hijacking woman's car

Bond has been set at $250,000 for a Villa Park man charged with hijacking a woman's car from a gas station as part of a spree in which he tried to enter several vehicles, the DuPage County state's attorney's office said Thursday.

Michael Davis, 35, is charged with one count of vehicular hijacking, two counts of attempt vehicular hijacking, one count of aggravated battery in a public place, one count of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and one count of aggravated DUI, all felonies, according to a news release.

There were no serious injuries, the release stated.

Villa Park police responded to a call at 5:10 p.m. on Sept. 29 of a person trying to enter cars in a Walgreens store parking lot. Authorities say Davis entered the passenger seat of an occupied vehicle and demanded the victim drive away, according to the news release. When the victim exited his vehicle to attend to another person in the back of the car, Davis went around the car to the driver's side and attempted to get in the vehicle.

Davis then ran toward another occupied car in the parking lot and punched the windows multiple times and told the female driver to let him in, according to the release. When she refused, he ran to a nearby Thortons gas station and tried to enter a woman's car while she was at a gas pump washing her car windows.

Authorities say Davis entered her car and drove away and dragged the woman as she held on to the steering wheel. After she let go, Davis drove away and crashed into an outside store display and two vehicles at the gas station before fleeing west on Roosevelt Road, according to the release.

Later, Davis was involved in a crash in Lombard, fled on foot and was taken into custody near the crash scene by Lombard Police officers. Police said Davis had a blood-alcohol level of .261, officials said in the news release.

"It is alleged that within a very short amount of time, Mr. Davis' brief crime spree claimed eight victims and caused significant damage to gas station property and three vehicles," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in the release. "These allegations are outrageous and will be met with the full force of the law."

Davis next court appearance is Oct. 31, 2019, for arraignment in front of Judge Liam Brennan.
