Boys golf: Crystal Lake South repeats FVC championship

Total domination.

Fashioning a perfect 9-0 slate during the Fox Valley Conference dual meet season, Crystal Lake South continued its dominance at Thursday's conference meet held at Randall Oaks Golf Course and hosted by Dundee-Crown.

The Gators, with three finishers in the top four, cruised to the FVC crown for a second straight season with an impressive score of 296. Prairie Ridge was a distant second at 317.

"We were firing on all cylinders today despite not the best conditions," said Crystal Lake South coach Curt Wadlington. "It was windy and the course was very wet. This is a tough golf conference so to win it two years in a row is quite an accomplishment."

South's Will Stewart was the conference's individual champion with a 1-under-par 70.

"My putting was the best part of my game today," said Stewart. "I had to play with a lot of patience and keep the ball low because the ground was so soft. It was a good day for me and my teammates."

Wadlington is impressed with Stewart's performance in big meets.

"Will is a gamer," said Wadlington. "The bigger the meet the better he always plays. He knows when to turn it on."

John Lishchynsky placed second, two strokes behind Stewart with a 1-over 72. Ricky Falbo carved out a 75 to finish fourth while Tanner Coakley fired a 79 to place 10th.

Andrew Rechtsteiner's eighth place finish with a 76 helped Jacobs finish third with a score of 327.

"It is was my best round of the season." said Rechtsteiner. "I was happy with the way I played."
