Louisiana-Lafayette’s football coach gets contract extension

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - The University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s football coach has agreed to a contract extension.

The Advocate reports UL’s director of athletics, Bryan Maggard, announced the deal Tuesday with Billy Napier.

Napier’s contract now extends through the 2023 season. In a statement, Maggard says they are excited to extend Napier’s contract and are “proud of what he and his staff has been able to accomplish in such a short time.”

Napier is in his second season at Louisiana-Lafayette. Last year, the Ragin’ Cajuns won the Sun Belt Conference West division championship before losing to Appalachian State in the conference title game.

The Ragin’ Cajuns are off to a 4-1 start this season. The next game kicksoff at 7 p.m. Oct. 9 in a rematch against Appalachian State.
