Aurora church's 'clothes closet' serves community

St. John United Church of Christ, 309 Fifth St., Aurora, will hold its monthly Community Clothes Closet from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 5.

The public is invited. Admission is free.

Rev. Cyndi Gavin, church pastor, said the ministry distributes new and used clothes, shoes, toys, books, movie CDs and household goods to people in need. Refreshments are included. Visitors must register on site.

At the Aug. 3 Closet, clients included about 300 people and 72 families.

St. John UCC holds a public worship service at 10 a.m. Sundays. Founded in 1887 by German immigrants, the church's roots reflect Lutheran, Evangelical and Reformed traditions originating in the Reformation and carried forward by German and Swiss families who came to the new world.
