Schools must keep remembrance of 9/11
When 9/11 occurred, those of us who witnessed the events, all promised we would never forget. We would honor those who were murdered and those who died trying to save them. As the years went on, we also promised to remember those who gave their lives, limbs and more fighting the terrorists overseas.
Do you want to know how long that promise lasts? Eighteen years. My daughter is a student at Grant Community High School in Fox Lake. On 9/11, the school flew the flag at half mast but did nothing else. There was no moment of silence at 7:46 a.m. when the first plane struck the first tower. There was no discussions, no remembrance, no appreciation for those who gave all to protect us.
All of the students there now were born after 9/11/2001. It is important to educate them on the events and make sure the memory lives on. So, if you need to know, it only takes 18 years before we forget what happened on 9/11. Please help me change this and contact
the school to request a day of remembrance on 9/11 every year.
