Tried-and-true standards dominate Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire's 2020 season

Classic Broadway musicals make up the bulk of the Marriott Theatre's 2020 season, which was announced Monday by the Lincolnshire theater.

Audiences get to go back to Rydell High School starting Jan. 15 with a revival of "Grease," a 1972 musical about a 1950s "good girl" who falls for a tough teenage guy.

Backstage romantic shenanigans power "Kiss Me, Kate," which begins March 25. Cole Porter's classic 1948 musical takes much of its inspiration from Shakespeare's comedy "The Taming of the Shrew."

Songwriters John Kander and Fred Ebb are feted starting May 27 in "And the World Goes 'Round." This critically acclaimed 1991 musical revue is made up of songs from "Cabaret," "Chicago" and other shows.

To whet audiences' appetite for Steven Spielberg's new film version of "West Side Story," the Marriott revives the classic 1957 musical starting Aug. 12. Playwright Arthur Laurents and songwriters Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim famously updated Shakespeare's tragedy "Romeo and Juliet" to dueling teenage gangs in New York.

The season concludes with a revival of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II's "The Sound of Music" starting Oct. 28, 2020. The beloved 1959 musical is about a novice nun who becomes a nanny to the many children of a widower naval captain amid the rise of Nazism in 1930s Europe.

The Marriott's children's theater season features "The Princess and the Pea" (Feb. 7-April 9), "Elephant & Piggie's 'We Are in a Play'" (June 12-July 26) and "The Wizard of Oz" (Nov. 11-Dec. 27).

Performances take place at 10 Marriott Drive, Lincolnshire. Season subscriptions range from $130-$200.50. Call (847) 634-0200 or visit marriotttheatre.com.
