The popularity of home-improvement television remains strong. Hosts such as Chip and Joanna Gaines have become household names, and just this month, the premiere of "A Very Brady Renovation" scored huge ratings for HGTV.

Since 2013, the Daily Herald also has been involved in this makeover phenomena, helping suburban homeowners update their houses while reporting on the progress with stories in its Homes & Garden section. Over the years, dozens of doors have been replaced, bathrooms updated and worn out furniture kicked to the curb.

The newspaper's pages will again be filled with these home makeovers as the Room for Living contest returns for 2019. The Daily Herald and its Room for Living sponsors are now accepting applications for this year's potential winners.

Go online to events.dailyherald.com and click on the Room for Living link to enter. You will be asked to submit a full-size, clear photo of the room you want to update. Try to show as much of the room as possible, including furniture and other outdated features in need of attention.

Submissions will be accepted through Sept. 29. This fall, three prize packages will be given away:

• Living/Family Room package valued at $4,000.

• Bathroom Tub/Shower package valued at $7,000.

• Interior Door package valued at $2,000.

Prizes will be awarded by our Room for Living partners: O'Reilly's Furniture and Amish Gallery, Bath Planet of Chicagoland, HomeStory Doors of Chicago, Acanthus Design, Web Décor and Treetime Christmas Creations.
