UEFA charges Porto for fans' racial abuse in Europa League

NYON, Switzerland (AP) - UEFA charged Porto on Friday with racist behavior by fans at a Europa League game, in the latest allegation of an opponent's black player being verbally abused while taking a penalty kick.

Abusive shouts were allegedly targeted at Young Boys player Jean-Pierre Nsame as he prepared to take a penalty in the 15th minute of Thursday's game in Portugal.

Nsame, a Cameroon international, scored from the spot in the Swiss team's 2-1 loss.

The incident was highlighted Friday by a television commentator for the French-language Swiss public broadcaster.

UEFA said its disciplinary panel will judge the case next Thursday.

Any sanctions, such as closing all or part of Porto's stadium, could be applied when the two-time European champion hosts Rangers in a Europa League group-stage game on Oct. 24.

The case follows a similar incident in Italy this month when Cagliari fans aimed racial insults at Inter Milan forward Romelu Lukaku as he took a penalty.
