Village of Antioch to Host Public Meeting on Recreational Cannabis on September 16

ANTIOCH, ILLINOIS- Village of Antioch (www.antioch.il.gov) officials will host a public meeting regarding the sale of recreational cannabis within their community. The Village Board will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, September 16, to discuss how to move forward. The meeting will be held at the Antioch Senior Center (817 Holbek Drive).

Beginning January 1, with legislation signed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker in June known as the Illinois Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act, or House Bill 1438, adults 21 and older may possess cannabis or purchase cannabis products in licensed stores.

A presentation is planned to address these topics and share information. Local governments have the authority to prohibit or allow the sale of recreational cannabis in their community. In addition, municipalities also have the option to regulate the location of craft growers, infusers and cultivation centers , and the consumption of cannabis on-site, such as in cafés and lounges. Municipalities may adopt and enforce local ordinances with regulations and penalties consistent with the Act.

Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting and learn more. A FAQ guide is available online at www.antioch.il.gov/cannabis/. Comments can also be submitted to the Village Clerk via email at lromine@antioch.il.gov.
