Why no reduction in defense spending?

If not now - then when? The questions that all taxpayers should be asking their members of Congress and the president is why isn't there a reduction in the number of active troops, closure of some overseas bases and reduced military spending?

The defense budget for 2019 is almost $1 trillion and projected to increase in 2020 and beyond. The U.S. already spends more on defense than the next eight countries combined. This is the perfect time to reduce the number of overseas bases, and troops and scaling back defense spending. There are no major or even minor military conflicts anywhere in the world and the chances of one developing are slim to none.

The defense budget is the one area in discretionary spending where significant spending reductions can be made. President Donald Trump just announced that he is diverting $3.6 billion from military spending to finance the construction of the wall on the southern border. This is proof that the defense budget is bloated and can be significantly reduced without jeopardizing our defense.
