Apartments for people with disabilities opening in Arlington Heights

Officials will cut the ribbon Wednesday afternoon on a supportive housing development for people with disabilities in Arlington Heights that is a decade in the making.

Heart's Place, a two-story, 18-unit development at 120 W. Boeger Drive, is intended for those with a wide range of disabilities and people moving from nursing homes into independent living settings. The 18,800-square-foot building features 10 one-bedroom apartments and eight two-bedroom apartments, a shared community space for residents to gather, a camera surveillance system and secure entry with resident intercom access.

The village board approved the project in 2018 after rejecting plans for a larger project in 2010.

Guest speakers at the 3 p.m. ribbon cutting ceremony will include: Mayor Tom Hayes; representatives of Housing Opportunity Development Corp., the owner and property manager; UPholdings, the development consultant; and financiers Illinois Housing Development Authority and Federal Home Loan Bank. Public tours will follow the ribbon cutting until 6 p.m.
