Put pot vote in November 2020, not March

The Naperville City Council is to be commended for voting to allow Naperville residents to vote in a referendum whether the city should allow the sale of recreational marijuana or continue a ban on such sales.

The referendum should be held in conjunction with the national November 2020 election rather than the March 2020 primary for two reasons: the six months between March and November would allow the council more time to research data from communities that have opted to allow sales; a March referendum would not.

More importantly, this is politically a nonpartisan issue. The March primary is partisan - voters must request either a Republican ballot or a Democrat ballot. The November general election will have a much greater voter turnout, giving more residents the opportunity to express their opinion.
