Lombard teen pleads guilty to making social media threat

A former Glenbard East High School student who used social media to threaten to kill his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend and then to hurt her, pleaded guilty Monday to making a false report of a threat to a school building or persons.

Jaris McCullum, 19, of the 1000 block of South Route 53 in Lombard, was sentenced to 180 days in jail and 24 months of probation. He will receive credit for the 139 days he has been in the DuPage County jail since April 23, according to court records.

According to Lombard police, McCullum sent a message March 24 via Facebook Messenger to his ex-girlfriend, saying he would go to the school to kill her boyfriend and harm her. The message also contained a photograph of McCullum pointing what appeared to be a gun, according to court records.

The girl told the dean of students April 18 and the school reported it to the school's police resource officer.

McCullum also pleaded guilty to a charge of burglary. He had been charged in July 2018 with five counts of burglary from a motor vehicle in Glen Ellyn.

He also pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a weapon by a felon or person in custody. According to authorities, on April 30 McCullum removed a water push button from the sink in his cell to gain access to a 12-inch steel rod he intended to use to injure another detainee.
