The issue is power

Disregard the fact that Mr. Kyle totally bungled this issue of Lake County Civil War Days. He canceled it, reinstated it, and then canceled it in rapid succession. He then cited security reasons which were later unconfirmed by law enforcement, cited his own "anti-slavery" feelings, along with some supportive comments by a little-known activist. The only thing he didn't do was play the race card, for which I give him credit.

The biggest issue here, to me, is how a president of a forest preserve district has the unilateral power to shut down an event. How did that position get that much power/authority, and why wasn't it discovered, and dealt with, earlier?

Somebody please educate me.
