Retiring parks director will be missed

Recently, I attended a farewell party for Bob Cole, long-time director of public works for Carpentersville. At the event he was lauded for the many things he was involved with, such as the improvements to our water treatment facility, the construction of the new public works facility, and so on.

What was not mentioned were the many improvements and events that Bob helped to put together. Among these are: the three-quarters-of-a-million-dollars renovation of Carpenter Park; the improvements to Keith Andres Park, as well as our other parks; the First Arbor Day Celebration; the first Christmas house decoration contest; the first Halloween house decoration contest; the first village yard sale; the first Civil War re-enactment; the first Fall Fest; and the first Easter egg hunt.

Bob's involvement with the Christmas tree lighting, National Prayer Night and any other village event helped to make them a success. Bob's smiley face and "can-do" attitude will be missed.
