IDNR to share latest news on deer disease at Volo Bog

Illinois Department of Natural Resources wildlife biologist Stefanie Fitzsimmons will share the latest research and management efforts regarding chronic wasting disease in deer from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at Volo Bog State Natural Area, 28478 W. Brandenburg Road, Ingleside. It is an infectious disease of the nervous system that affects deer, elk, moose and caribou/reindeer. There is no treatment or cure and it is always fatal. CWD was first identified in Illinois near Roscoe in 2002 and since then, more than 114,000 deer have been tested to identify the location and severity of the disease.
