Community Character Coalition Recognizes Elk Grove Cares

During its September 3, 2019 general meeting, the Community Character Coalition of Elk Grove recognized Mayor Johnson, Chief Walsh, Deputy Chief Gaspari and Des Raftery for their development and support of the Elk Grove Cares program.

Elk Grove Cares was developed to reduce the impact of addiction on our community by treating addiction with a community-based approach that assists addicts and their loved ones in obtaining the help they need to start the recovery process. But the help doesn't stop there. The program offers follow up support by Village social services personnel to the person in recovery as well as his/her family. The ultimate goal being to return the addict to his/her family and the community as a usual and productive member of society.

This shift from treating drug addiction as solely a law enforcement issue to a more compassionate approach demonstrates all Six Pillars of Character Counts: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship. The Community Character Coalition of Elk Grove applauds Elk Grove Village, its Mayor, Board of Trustees, Police and Social Services for the Elk Grove Cares program.
