Boys soccer: Espinosa's 3 goals lift Elgin

Isaac Espinosa's hat trick led Elgin to its first win of the season, 3-2 over Leyden on Wednesday at the St. Charles tournament at St. Charles North High School.

The game was tied 1-1 at halftime as Espinosa scored assisted by Jean Padilla-Lopez. Jose Hernandez and Eduardo Berrun had assists on Espinosa's second half goals.

Cary-Grove 3, Grant 0: Mateo Nuñez scored a pair of goals as the Trojans improved to 2-1.

Sebastian Sproch notched the first Cary-Grove goal, unassisted, for a 1-0 halftime lead. He added an assist on the final goal of the match, and Darío Gamboa assisted on the Trojans' second goal.

Sam Larsen made 2 saves.

Crystal Lake South 1, Palatine 1: Tom Coughlin scored in the second half to give the Gators (2-1-2) their second tie of the season. Alex Canfield and Tyler Getzinger assisted. Senior Carson Hill made 9 saves.
