Boys soccer: Sanchez, Nambo each score twice for Vernon Hills

Vernon Hills 6, Grant 1: Jessy Sanchez and Valdemar Nambo each scored twice for the Cougars in the nonconference match.

Zach Hanson and Lucas Scott also had goals for Vernon Hills (1-2-1). Carlos Aguilar had 2 assists, and David Deng and Joel Kim contributed one each.

"Unfortunately, had to play from behind again tonight as we had another slow start," Vernon Hills coach Mike McCaulou said. "Our decision-making has to be better and we have to play faster. It was nice to put a few in the back of the net. Hopefully that gets us going for the rest of the season."

Loyola Academy 5, Grayslake Central 2: At Grayslake Central, as part of the Northside College Showcase, Owen Aaberg (penalty kick) and Daniel Marynevych (unassisted) scored for the Rams (1-3, 0-2 tourney).

"The scoreline might not suggest it, but this one could have gone either way," Rams coach Tom Hamilton said. "We were the better team for large portions, but the difference came in determination. I never saw a Loyola player take a play off that game, but unfortunately that wasn't the same for us, and a team of their caliber will always make you pay for that. Credit to them for teaching us that lesson. It's frustrating, because we created some great chances with some beautiful soccer at times, and our center backs stepped up big as leaders. Now we know it has to be 100 % all the time, and we'll look to move forward with that in mind."

Libertyville 2, New Trier 1: Mickey Reilly and Patrick Graham scored for the Wildcats.

Landon Johnson and Conner Hays had assists for Libertyville.
