Boys soccer: Antioch, Warren win tournaments

Adam Lynn scored twice and Antioch's boys soccer team beat Joliet Catholic 5-1 to win the IMSA tournament for the third year in a row Saturday.

Remi Ivanovas added a goal and 2 assists for the Sequoits, who also got goals from Adrian Aguayo and Brock Jurinek.

"Great team effort and selfless play from the entire team," Antioch coach Mike McDermott said. "Very proud of the team as we have a small senior group that has been leading our underclassmen by example, and they all accepted the challenges we gave them with our struggles from last year."

Warren 3, Prairie Ridge 0: At Grayslake North, the Blue Devils captured the tournament championship, as Ishaan Shah opened the scoring in the ninth minute and tallied again in the 13th.

Luke Schoenbrunn and Noe Martinez assisted on Shah's two goals. Martinez assisted on Cory Melchor's strike that had Warren up 3-0 at halftime.

Blue Devils keeper Nic Diana made 3 saves in posting the shutout.

Warren (4-0) finished 3-0 in the tournament.

Grayslake North 2, Harvard 1: At Grayslake North, the host Knights completed their tournament by prevailing in penalty kicks, 4-2.

"Another tough match today, but managed to grind out the win this time," Grayslake North coach Adam DeCaluwe said. "Throughout the majority of the game, we had pretty good possession of the ball and played in their half more than not, but we were not looking to go to goal enough."

Harvard converted a penalty kick to take a 1-0 lead, before the Knights got the equalizer on when Omar Cordova's shot hit the crossbar and rebounded to Aidan Stotz, who headed the ball into the net.

After 10 minutes of overtime play, each of Grayslake North's four shooters converted his penalty kick. Knights goalkeeper David Sereno made 2 saves to earn the win. Stotz converted the game-winning PK.

Vernon Hills 2, Lake Zurich 2: Nick Jahen's second goal of the game pulled Vernon Hills even in the second half.

Carlos Aguilar had an assist for Vernon Hills (0-2-1).

"After a slow start to the game and giving up 2 early goals, we settled in and played within our system," Cougars coach Mike McCaulou said. "We did some nice things today in terms of keeping the ball and coming back from a two-goal deficit. Looking forward to seeing our guys put together a full 80 minutes."

Lake Zurich got goals from Aiman Naqvi and Nate Wenzel.

Grant splits two games: In Rockford, the Bulldogs completed tournament action by shutting out Belvidere 2-0 and losing to Hampshire 4-0.
