Aurora man sent to prison for unlawful gun possession

An Aurora man was sentenced Thursday to eight years in prison for illegally possessing a gun, the Kane County state's attorney's office announced.

As a felon, Marcus T. Walker, 32, wasn't allowed to own a gun, according to a news release from the state's attorney's office. He was convicted by a Kane County jury in April of being armed habitual criminal.

Walker said told authorities in 2016 that he knew he was prohibited from owning a gun, the news release said. He was convicted in 2009 in Kendall County and in 2012 in Cook County of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and served time in prison for each offense.

The news release said Walker must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence, meaning he'll be imprisoned for almost seven years.
