BG Days Charity Softball Game Renamed to Honor Community Member

For the last 25 years, the kickoff to Buffalo Grove Days has been a charity softball game on the night before the festival officially opens. This year, the game has been renamed to honor a dedicated community volunteer who passed away suddenly in early April. The newly branded 'Rick Drazner Memorial Softball Game' will take place Wednesday, August 28, 2019 starting at 6:00 p.m. at Emmerich Park, 150 Raupp Boulevard in Buffalo Grove, at the north field.

Funds raised through this event will benefit the Buffalo Grove Friends of the Parks Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the Buffalo Grove Park District in the development and enhancement of programs, services, facilities and planning.

The charity softball game is held tournament style, and includes teams from the Village of Buffalo Grove, the Buffalo Grove Park District, in addition to the Buffalo Grove Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce (BGLCC) who hosts the event. In 2018, the Village's team won 1st place; the Park District and BGLCC teams will battle each other first-the winner plays the Village in the championship round.

"We are thrilled to once again host the charity softball game, and especially this year as we honor our dear friend Rick Drazner," said Adriane Johnson, BGLCC president and event sponsor though her human resources consulting firm, PopulusXP. "I can't think of a better way to start the BG Days festivities; we hope to get full community support and a great turnout."

Buffalo Grove Bank & Trust is co-sponsoring with PopulusXP. "Buffalo Grove Bank & Trust, a Wintrust Community Bank, is honored to sponsor the Rick Drazner Memorial Softball Game," said Senior Vice President Miriam Campbell. "We proudly support organizations, nonprofits, and people working to improve our community. The term "community bank" isn't just something we say; it's who we are."

Additional event sponsors include Culver's of Buffalo Grove, the Law office of Bradley L. Schencker, the Buffalo Grove Park District, Buffalo Grove Public Works Department and Lou Malnati's Pizzeria, along with Stu Cohen, and Bill Sullivan who will be hosting the event's post-game party.
