Palatine police traffic safety crackdown runs through Sept. 3

Palatine police have started a traffic safety campaign that they say is focusing on drunk, unbuckled and distracted drivers. Police said the goal is to help ensure the safety of residents and visitors. Palatine police are collaborating with law enforcement agencies across Illinois for the increased statewide effort. Extra uniformed police officers are conducting saturation patrols dedicated to identifying and arresting impaired drivers, as well as strictly enforcing speeding, seat belt, and distracted driving laws. The high-visibility crackdown will run through the early morning hours of Sept. 3. The "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign receives federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
