Lake County treasurer buys backpacks

Lake County Treasurer Holly Kim has announced she used a state stipend to purchase backpacks she then donated to the United Way of Lake County. The backpacks will be given to needy students. Kim said she purchased 226 bags with the roughly $2,355 she received from the state. All county treasurers receive annual stipends from the state for doing their jobs. The money is awarded on top of the treasurers' salaries. Kim's annual salary as treasuer is $127,874.
