Where are black applicants for cop jobs?

The comments made by Mr. Clyde Brooks, chairman of the Illinois Commission on Diversity and Human Relations, made for interesting reading (Daily Herald, Aug. 7) and caused me considerable concern about his glasses. Is it possible that he could not see the double lines outside of the village hall of all the black recruits applying for the job of patrol officer?

Perhaps, it was not his glasses, but the failure of all the aspiring black applicants to get in line.

Is it possible that he has no black friends and acquaintances to recommend to Village Manager Randy Recklaus, or is it easier to criticize one of the finest police forces and best managed villages?

My praise goes to the Daily Herald for publishing his derogatory comments. It might make for better news when he tells us of all the black applicants that were passed over because they were black, or isn't that the case?

It is obvious that Mr. Brooks is extremely bright and thinks that Mr. Recklaus and Chief Pecora can manufacture black applicants. Providing assistance to the village in finding those elusive applicants probably has not occurred to Mr. Brooks, because it is easier to garner publicity by doing nothing in the black community. Maybe, he just doesn't know anyone that looks like him, as he stated in the paper.
