Summer flowers in bloom at Healing Gardens in St. Charles Aug. 11

Healing Gardens, a two-acre expanse of woodland and perennial gardens, will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, at Stone Hill Farm, on Dean Street, west of Randall Road in St. Charles.

The gardens are open to the public on set dates for the purpose of enjoying the natural wooded setting and perennial gardens.

Admission is $5 per person and $10 per family; call for discounted group rates. In solidarity and to honor the journey, cancer survivors are always free. Donations of time or money for upkeep are welcome.

Healing Gardens is cultivated and hosted by Deborah Marqui, owner of Stone Hill Farm with her husband, Buzz Marqui. Marqui, who is cancer-free from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma since 1996 and in remission from breast cancer since 2002, finds great restoration of spirit in her gardens and property and wants to share that with the public for their own rejuvenation.

For a small donation, visitors can pick their own bouquet of flowers to take home; jars and scissors provided.

The August opening will offer an optional outdoor Yoga In The Garden class from 1 to 2 p.m. taught by Nancy May. Go to www.yogafromtheheart.org or call (815) 319-3500 to register.

Healing Gardens has announced the publication of "From the Fire Into the Garden: A Healing Journey," written by Deborah Marqui the owner of Healing Gardens. "Many visitors to the gardens ask why my husband, Buzz, and I have opened the gardens. The memoir is the story behind the creation of Healing Gardens," Marqui said.

What began as journal entries to make sense of the sudden shocking reality of a terminal diagnosis became a powerful raw account of the author's transformative journey. With cancer as "teacher" and nature as "healer," she was launched into a compelling, crash course in how to integrate body, mind and spirit into health and wholeness. Memoir includes a guide for reflection.

The memoir can be purchased through Amazon for $15 or from Healing Gardens for $12 at the Aug. 11 opening. She will be present to sign copies of the memoir.
