Climate change is No. 1 issue
Most people believe that their version of the truth is the way things actually are. However, the truth is a difficult thing to determine. Right now, we live in a country where the truth is a function of political popularity or, perhaps, a result of a political ideology.
If that's the case, we're in trouble. If science is as close to truth as we're likely to get, then the people who know the most, say the planet is in peril.
Alternative ideologues say, don't worry about it. Weather changes. But if they are wrong, which they are, the next hundred years will be a consequence of their ignorance and their ideology. Of course, they will come up with a way to say it's the liberals' fault, and like-minded believers will follow right along.
But right now, we might have a chance to prevent a calamity from visiting itself on our children and grandchildren. But, if we vote for anyone who denies climate science, no matter what our reasons, gun control, abortion, racial animosity - any culture war hobby-horse we can come up with, we are complicit in bringing about the next human crisis.
Global warming is the issue of our day. Everything else is subsidiary. Rage away online about your favorite issue, but vote for candidates who are willing to confront global warming. If you refuse to do that, then don't blame the people who have warned you of the wrenching fate that awaits humanity.
