All win when we increase clean energy

As "Revised rules reflect heightened interest in solar power" (July 22) notes, Libertyville residents and businesses want to be sure that our city is reaping the economic and environmental benefits of renewable energy. It is exciting today that solar energy can deliver electricity to an outlet at 2 - 3 cents per kWh over 25-30 years.

This new clean energy trend is not just good for the pocketbook of homeowners and businesses, it is also critically good for reducing carbon emissions and the lowering impacts of climate change.

As a project developer at a solar company, I know firsthand that energy producers, energy distributors and our communities can all win when we increase clean energy.

Almost 6,000 people work in clean energy in Lake County alone, according to Clean Jobs Midwest, an annual report based on the 2019 U.S. Energy Employment report. These are people who are making buildings more energy efficient, but also people like me who are working to install solar arrays.

Other benefits are that it also reduces the air pollution that causes asthma and other health issues.

Illinois has a chance to develop a common-sense statewide plan to make sure that we are transitioning to a clean energy economy by passing the Clean Energy Jobs Act. We hope our lawmakers and Gov. Pritzker prioritize this piece of legislation that will truly make Illinois a national leader.
