Bartlett police investigate two crashes involving bicyclists

Bartlett police investigated two motor vehicle crashes involving bicyclists Thursday and Friday.

At about 3 p.m. Thursday, officers were dispatched to a crash at the intersection of Devon Avenue and Main Street. Their investigation concluded that a boy riding his bike south on the sidewalk had disobeyed a traffic signal, leading to his hitting the side of a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado.

The boy suffered injuries that were not life-threatening and was taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates.

At about 6:30 a.m. Friday, a 29-year-old man riding a bicycle west in the crosswalk at Prospect Avenue and Stearns Road was struck by a 2013 Buick Verano.

The bicyclist suffered minor injuries but did not go to the hospital. The driver, 52-year-old James K. Ziegler of Bartlett, was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. He was issued a court date of Sept. 16 at the DuPage County Courthouse in Wheaton.
