Dogs lose 8-3 in Fargo

FARGO, N.D. - Rey Gonzalez hit his fourth home run of the year, but the Chicago Dogs fell to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks by a score of 8-3 on Wednesday night at Newman Outdoor Field.

Luke Westphal (L, 9-2) was uncharacteristic in his start, surrendering five earned runs in four innings. The Clintonville, Wisconsin native did strike out six to increase his league-leading total to 103.

Chris Jacobs got the scoring started immediately for Fargo-Moorhead, driving in Tim Colwell on a single in the first inning. The RedHawks took a 2-0 lead in the second on a sacrifice fly by Brennan Metzger.

Rey Gonzalez continued his recent power surge with a solo shot to left field in the third inning to trim the deficit to one.

The RedHawks knocked Westphal out of the game with a three-run outburst in the fourth. Colwell drove in a run of his own with a double to score Brian Olson, and scored again as part of a Devan Ahart two-run single to put Fargo ahead 5-1.

The Dogs got one back in the top of the sixth off the bat of Keon Barnum, who drove in David Olmedo-Barrera with a two-out single to make it 5-2. With two hits on the night, Olmedo-Barrera extended his on-base streak to 28 games. It also marked his 18th consecutive road game with a hit.

Fargo-Moorhead piled it on late, scoring three off Carlos Zambrano in the seventh inning to push the score to 8-2.

In the top of the eighth, Olmedo-Barrera smacked a triple on the first pitch of the inning, and Edwin Arroyo drove him in on a groundout one pitch later to make it 8-3.

The Dogs wrap up their series against the RedHawks on Thursday afternoon at 12:30 PM. RHP Wes Torrez (1-3) will face off against LHP Sebastian Kessay (7-0).
