Gurnee Police Explorers team wins top prize at state competition

The Gurnee Police Explorers brought home the most awards and first-place trophies at a statewide competition held in Bloomington last week.

The Post sent 11 members, all aged 14 to 20, to compete against about 200 other explorers across many categories of competition. Some of the events in which the Gurnee team took home the top prize included team obstacle course, drills and ceremony, courtroom testimony, domestic dispute, crime scene response and both male and female virtual target shooting.

As a result of their top performance, the Distinguished Unit Award was given to the Gurnee explorers. In the five years there has been a Gurnee team, they've competed in three state competitions and two national competitions, earning a total of 70 state trophies and 7 national trophies.
