A teenage driver without a license crashed into a power pole Sunday in Aurora, causing power outages and temporary road closures, police said.
The 17-year-old lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the pole at the corner of North Root Street and College Avenue. The driver wasn't injured and was ticketed for driving without a licensed driver in the vehicle with only a learner's permit, according to Paris Lewbel, a spokesperson for the Aurora Police Department.
Authorities blocked off a portion of North Root Street between Flagg Street and Claim Street after the crash but the road has reopened, according to tweets from the Aurora Police Department.
Two blocks lost power, Lewbel said, and ComEd crews are still working to restore power in the area.
Tweets from Aurora police advised residents to stay cool. Anyone in need of a cooling shelter can call police for assistance.
Police are still investigating the crash.
