Bill would help control state spending

Illinois taxpayers are being abused by our state government. The high levels of taxation are against the spirit of the Land of Lincoln. The burdensome taxation is also against the spirit of our Founding Fathers and the heroic patriots that founded this great nation.

Despite the Democratic supermajorities across our state, I encourage Speaker Michael Madigan, every member of the Illinois House of Representatives, Illinois Senate, and yes, even Gov. Pritzker to support Rep. Tom Morrison's House Joint Resolution/Constitutional Amendment 34. This constitutional amendment would serve as a necessary bulwark against gratuitous tax hikes upon the people of Illinois.

HJRCA 34 would require a supermajority, or a two-thirds vote threshold, to approve any new revenue increases in the Illinois House of Representatives.

Let's be real. Taxes are through the roof and people are leaving our state. I filled my tank in Wisconsin, and saved $15 as opposed to doing so here at home.

Let's get creative with new ways to raise revenue. Let's begin to serve our people once more. This means incentivizing economic growth of small businesses, creating new community centers for our children, which deliver huge returns in the effort of creating a positive future, investing in the industries of the future such as sustainable energy, technological and medical breakthroughs and unleashing the limitless potential of Illinoisans.

We have the smartest, hardest-working, kindest, bravest and most capable people in the world here in Illinois. It is time we treat them with they respect and dignity they deserve.

I strongly support passage of HJRCA 34 in order to right the wrongs that have hurt our people and to move forward toward a brighter future for our beautiful state.
