Second person found guilty in fatal shooting of teenager

CHICAGO (AP) - A Chicago teenager was found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of a grandson of Illinois Congressman Danny Davis.

The conviction Thursday of 18-year-old Tariq Harris came a day after an accomplice, 20-year-old Dijae Banks, was found guilty by a different jury in the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Javon Wilson.

Prosecutors said Harris, then 16, and Banks, then 17, forced their way into Wilson's apartment in November 2016, seeking a pair of shoes Banks exchanged for pants with Wilson's brother. During an ensuing scuffle, Harris shot Wilson with a gun given him by Banks.

Assistant Public Defender John Wilson asserted the shooting of the teen by Harris was an accident.

Assistant State's Attorney Enrique Abraham dismissed that claim, saying Harris knew exactly what he was doing when he fired the gun after Banks cried for help in her scuffle with Javon Wilson.
