Lombard celebrates 150th anniversary with concert, ice cream social Aug. 1

On Thursday, Aug. 1, the Village of Lombard is celebrating its 150th anniversary, or sesquicentennial, by commemorating the 1869 Lombard board of trustees meeting at the Maple Street Chapel at 6 p.m.

An ice cream social and concert will be held after the meeting at the Lombard Historical Society William J. Mueller Gazebo, behind the Victorian Cottage, at 23 W. Maple St. in Lombard from 6:30 to 8 p.m. For more information, visit villageoflombard.org, or (630) 620-5700.

The following two weeks, the Lombard Historical Society will continue their weekly ice cream social and live music in the gazebo.

• Aug. 7 - Plank Road Folk Music Society plays traditional and contemporary acoustic music including folk, bluegrass, old-timey, country & western, even acoustic rock.

• Aug. 14 - Mighty Joe Beatty. This is the last concert of the season. Mighty Joe is a musical powerhouse guitarist with strong vocals, simple melodies, precise musicianship, and powerful lyrics.

The grounds open and activities begin at 6:30 p.m. and the music begins at 7 p.m. The first 30 people receive a coupon for a free Dairy Queen Dilly Bar.

Bring a chair or a blanket, park at the Lombard Historical Society to pick up your DQ coupon, then redeem your coupon at the Dairy Queen on Main Street. This event is free and open to the public and suitable for all ages.

Play Victorian Era games like croquet and Hoops and Graces, or just sit back, enjoy your ice cream and listen to the music. Note that you will pick up your DQ coupon, courtesy of the Dairy Queen on Main Street, at the Lombard Historical Society and take it to DQ to redeem for your free Dilly Bar.

The Lombard Historical Society celebrates Lombard's heritage by collecting, preserving, and interpreting the history of Lombard and operates the Victorian Cottage Museum, the Carriage House and the Society's Archives at 23 W. Maple St., and the Sheldon Peck Homestead, a National Park Service Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Site, at 355 E. Parkside Avenue in Lombard.
