St. Mary in Mundelein serves up fun at Country Fest Aug. 4

St. Mary of the Annunciation will host its annual Country Fest from 1-6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, featuring locally raised pork procured from the Lake County Fair and roasted on-site by Beelow Farms.

"The hog-roasting has always been an exciting feature of our summer parish celebration, all the way back to the early days," said John Gannon, co-chair of this year's Country Fest. "We're pleased that this aspect of Country Fest attracts so many folks."

Accompanying the roasted pork will be generous servings of sweet corn from Didier Farms, fresh baked beans, potato salad, fresh tomatoes and crisp Filipino spring rolls. Meal tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 10 and younger.

Additional food items available for purchase will include desserts, craft beer from Mundelein's own Tighthead Brewing Co., soda and snacks.

Country Fest activities include baggo, children's and adult games, face painting, hay rides, music with a D.J., a silent auction and antique tractor and farm equipment exhibits.

"We welcome all our community friends and neighbors to join us on Sunday, Aug. 4, on St. Mary's beautiful parish grounds," St. Mary's pastor, the Rev. Jerry Jacob, said. "We're pleased we can offer this event in the summer again this year, making it possible for more families to attend at an affordable cost while honoring some of our traditions of the past."

There will also be a raffle with a grand prize of $5,000, second prize of $2,500, and third prize of $1,000. Raffle tickets are $5 each or six for $25. Admission to the festival grounds is free, as are most children's games and exhibits.
