Gurnee water tower to be installed in August

The final section of the new water tower being built on village-owned land at 1525 Knowles Road in Gurnee is being welded into place this week, according to an update released by the village. When the top of the bowl is lifted into place, it'll be welded together. Officials estimate the tower will be fully erected in August, at which point it will be painted. The tower will not be functional until the end of 2019. The new water tower will have 10 times the capacity of the old 200,000-gallon tower near Gurnee Fire Station 1, which was demolished by the village. And because the new tower will be located farther west, it will improve water pressure where it is needed the most.
