What columnist missed

Walter Williams is at it again, distorting the tenets that have made America the best place to live.

His philosophy is that if it's Christian, it's got to be good, and everything else is bad. Of course, it was Christianity that gave America slavery and the Civil War, but that was never mentioned in his column.

Thomas Jefferson was an atheist because he saw what the so-called "holy" men did to people under their thumb. That's why our forefathers specifically stated there should be a separation of church and state.

Western civilization isn't great because of our Christian ethics, but in spite of them. People aren't good because of their religious affiliation but because of their own moral compass.

Wasn't it white Christian men who put us in a war in Vietnam? Was it not good Christian people who lied us into a war in Iraq? So much for our Judeo-Christian morality.

He mentions the freedom women enjoy in the Western world as if it was handed to us on a platter because of our Judeo-Christian values. What he didn't mention are the struggles we endured, fighting these selfsame Judeo-Christian values that would have denied us every freedom we now enjoy, including the ability to have control over our own body.

I think Mr. Williams ought to read "The Crucible."
