Rock 'n' Rock Chicago race canceled due to heat concerns
CHICAGO (AP) - Organizers of Chicago's Humana Rock 'n' Roll Marathon series have canceled one of its three weekend races due to concerns about high temperatures.
The 5K race scheduled to begin early Saturday in Grant Park was canceled after temperatures were forecast to be too dangerous for participants. The race's organizers posted the cancellation on Facebook on Friday evening.
The National Weather Service forecast temperatures to reach 94 degrees on Saturday, with the heat index expected to be between 105 to 110 degrees.
The excessive heat warning is expected to expire by Sunday morning, when the Rock 'n' Roll will kick off its two other planned races, including a 10K and half marathon. Those races are still expected to take place.
