Hoffman Estates Karate Athletes Qualify Secure Spot on USA Karate Team
The weekend of July 11-14, more than 2,000 karate athletes from across the United States descended upon Schaumburg, IL to compete at the USA Karate 2019 National Championships and Team Trials. The four-day spectacle, which was hosted at the Schaumburg Convention Center, shattered existing attendance records, making it the largest Nationals in the organization's history.
All who participate in this competition seek the same outcome: leave as a National Champion.
Though for fifteen junior athletes, who train at the Hoffman Estates Park District with Illinois Shotokan Karate Clubs, the stakes were even greater. This tournament also provided an opportunity to qualify for a spot on the United States Junior Team which would allow them the privilege of representing the United States at prestigious international tournaments.
Eight of ISKC's competitors secured a spot on the Junior United States National Team. First and second place athletes will be competing in the 2019 Pan American Karate Federation Junior and Cadet Championships on August 27-31 in Guayaquil, Ecuador. First place athletes also get the unique opportunity of traveling to Santiago, Chile this October to compete in the 2019 Junior World Championships. Third place athletes will represent Team USA as one of the team alternates.
