Indiana officer shoots, wounds man during foot pursuit

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say an officer shot and wounded an armed man who was fleeing police on foot in northeastern Indiana.

Officers in Fort Wayne responded Monday night to a report about a suspicious person with a gun. Police say the man ran when officers approached him.

Fort Wayne police Sgt. Chris Felton says "the actions of the suspect" caused an officer to fire his gun during the chase. The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Noah Busche, was taken to a hospital for injuries that weren't considered to be serious.

Felton says the officer involved in the shooting will be put on leave, per department policy. He's a 14-year veteran. The circumstances of the shooting are under investigation.
