Calling for consolidations

I completely agree with Mr. Bob Anderson's letter in the Saturday, July 6, edition of the Daily Herald regarding townships. How is it that Illinois still has 1,432 townships?

Most other states no longer have them or never did have them. In the days of cost-cutting for governments, perhaps it is time to rid our state of townships. I am quite sure the counties could take over those responsibilities in a much more efficient manner.

For many years, school districts have consolidated, partly for cost cutting. That seems to work, and while not perfect for everyone, the schools seem to survive.
