Derailment leads to fuel spill, fire at Indiana train yard
AVON, Ind. (AP) - A derailment and fire at a train yard in central Indiana sent plumes of black smoke into the air that were visible from far away.
Railroad operator CSX says in a statement its employees reported about 9 p.m. Wednesday that two locomotives derailed at the train yard in Avon and spilled diesel fuel, which caught fire.
Fire crews from several departments responded and CSX says the fire was quickly extinguished. There were no injuries.
CSX says there is no safety risk to the public and no waterways were impacted. The circumstances of the derailment and fire are under investigation.
