Mundelein seminary hosts online Bible study
The Rev. John Kartje, rector of Mundelein Seminary at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake, is hosting an online Bible study this summer that traces the theme of healing through several books in the Old and New Testaments.
Titled "Healing Wounds," the self-guided series can be accessed by signing up at www.bit.ly/healingbiblestudy and will be distributed as a series of four weekly email messages.
The Bible study uses four, 20-minute audio meditations from Rev. Kartje with accompanying Bible passages and questions for further conversation and reflection.
"At this moment in the Catholic Church, and in our world, there is an essential need for healing," Rev. Kartje said. "Healing is at the core of the Christian message, and there are many ways that it is represented throughout the Bible. This series will feature some powerful but less obvious moments of healing."
The Bible study begins with a reflection on healing from Genesis - the original woundedness of original sin. The second reflection confronts healing within a family in the Book of Ruth. The third session delves into the New Testament by examining the healing of St. Peter through his relationship with Jesus Christ. The final reflection uses the Book of Revelation to examine what healing can look like for a church or parish community.
"It's my hope and prayer that these reflections might be an opportunity for you to experience healing and come to better understand the healing process through the sacred Word," Rev. Kartje said.
More than 500 people have already signed up to participate in the online Bible study, which can be used by individuals, parishes, small groups or friends and family members who would like to go through the material together.
