Civil War event honored history

First, kudos to the Herald for their editorial in the June 27 issue regarding the cancellation of this year's Civil War Days at Lakewood Forest Preserve. I was appalled that essentially one man could end this event and effectively cancel history.

I don't buy his "security issue" story. For some reason, he seems to think that this event uses the ugly side of the war to remember with. Not true. The displays and recreations every year honor the thousands who died and the others who carried on. It is history. It cannot be redone, dismissed or forgotten. A travesty that one man, for his own personal feelings, can remove an event that hundreds of families enjoy and learn from. A scary example of misguided power.

Bring it back.
