Police: Woman shot at husband, then died in struggle for gun
LONG GROVE, Ill. (AP) - Authorities in northern Illinois say a woman fired at her husband before a struggle over the firearm left her fatally shot.
The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports 47-year-old Barbara Bell Powers of Long Grove retrieved a revolver from a bedroom and fired at her 51-year-old husband with the bullet lodging in a wall. The sheriff's office and Lake County coroner say the gun discharged again during a struggle, fatally striking Powers in her head. The Lake County Sheriff's Office says the argument was over finances.
Sheriff's officials say deputies responding to the Monday afternoon incident found Powers dead inside the home. Police say Powers' husband has a valid firearm owners' card and the weapon was stored in a safe.
Police say surveillance video and physical evidence coincide with the husband's statements about the struggle.
