Gay pride festival attracts more than 100 in Indiana city

RICHMOND, Ind. (AP) - More than 100 people turned out in Richmond over the weekend for what's believed to have been the eastern Indiana city's first gay Pride festival.

Saturday's Rainbow Richmond Pride Festival included four musical acts followed by family-friendly drag show performances.

Bad weather had forced organizers to move the festival from June 15 to Saturday at Richmond's Jack Elstro Plaza. Festivalgoers faced hot weather during the event in the city that's located about 60 miles (96 kilometers) east of Indianapolis near the Indiana-Ohio state line.

Festival organizer Benjamin Guard says the community's response to the event was mostly positive, despite some negative comments on social media.

He tells the Palladium-Item that, "For every one voice that comes out against us, though, I can find a hundred that are for us."
